Comprehensive Integrative Medicine Consults

Integrative medicine is the merging of both traditional “eastern” medicine with more modern “western” medicine to create a treatment plan that is unique to the individual patient with the goal of finding health and wellness, not just creating the absence of disease. During your comprehensive consultation, Dr. Patrick will explore all of the aspects of your life that ultimately create your health - nutrition, movement, sleep, your medical conditions including current and prior treatments, other symptoms that may not be associated with a specific medical diagnosis, your sense of purpose in life, and your relationships/connections (with others and yourself). Through fully understanding you as a whole, she will better be able to design a treatment plan to address the underlying condition(s) or symptom(s) you wish to improve.

What to expect for your first visit:

Prior to your first visit, you will be getting intake paperwork to complete (either via the patient portal, email or you can arrange to pick it up at the office ahead of time). Please plan to do this at least 1 week ahead of time as this will help you get the most value out of that initial visit. Additionally, if you have any reports that are pertinent to your medical problems, such as labs and imaging, please bring them as well.  During this visit, Dr. Patrick will review your paperwork, complete an integrative medical interview, perform an exam if deemed appropriate and then determine next steps, initial treatment plan and follow up. Please expect to spend 60-75 minutes at the office for this appointment.  Initial steps will likely include any additional workup needed as well as an initial treatment plan. Examples of additional workup include bloodwork and other laboratory testing (please see FAQs for further information on laboratory testing), food journal review (if not completed during initial intake), etc. Your initial consultation includes a 30 minute telephone call for lab review and initial treatment check in. During this call, you and Dr. Patrick will determine next follow up steps.

Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or DOs, are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine with an emphasis on whole-person care. In addition to training with the philosophy that the body is a unit and thus you must treat all parts, DOs also receive extensive training in the musculoskeletal system and the manual (or hands-on) treatment of that system, termed osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). Therefore, OMT is the therapeutic application of manual techniques to address changes in body structure to improve physiologic function.

With the accumulation of injuries (either major or minor) as well as stress (physical, emotional or mental), dysfunction may develop and result in pain, sensitivity, decreased mobility, among other symptoms. The goal of OMT is to resolve such dysfunction through gently returning the body to its correct anatomic position, allowing the body to restore proper physiologic function and thus return to a healthier state.

What to expect during your visit:

Prior to your first visit, you will be getting intake paperwork to complete (either via the patient portal, email or you can arrange to pick it up at the office ahead of time). Please complete this prior to your visit to get the most out of your initial appointment. If you have any reports that are pertinent to your medical problem, such as lab work or imaging, please bring them as well. The first appointment will last approximately 1 hour and include history gathering and your initial treatment. It is helpful if you wear loose, stretchable clothing to your OMT sessions to allow for better hands on treatment and more full range of motion.

Who would benefit from OMT:

Conditions that would benefit from osteopathy: - Musculoskeletal pain: neck, back, shoulders, hips - Injuries: whiplash - Other pain syndromes: tension headaches, fibromyalgia

Follow-up plan:

Follow up OMT appointments will last about 30 minutes in length. After your initial treatment, Dr. Patrick and you will determine if additional treatments are needed and the appropriate follow up timeframe.
